High fructose corn syrup or HFCS as it is sometimes called, is another additive that’s worse for you than sugar. Since the body can only process fructose in the liver, a diet high in HFCS puts a strain in the liver and damages it similar to the way alcohol does. Fructose is metabolized as fat, which just helps pack on more pounds, which comes with health risks of its own.
