9. Petrolarum

They certainly didn’t try to disguise the origin of this additive by giving at a deceptive name. It is exactly what it sounds like, a petroleum derivative that is often used in to keep skin moist or to make hair shiny. That sounds all well-and-good until you discover that this additive is sometimes contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or PHAs, which over prolonged periods of exposure, may cause cancer. There is, of course, no way to tell if the product you are purchasing contains these contaminants.
