Over the years we’ve become ridiculously dependent on antibiotics, so much so that we now may be facing a new generation of adaptable “super bugs” that are immune to most antibiotics. For now, these new strains of bacteria are not widespread, and our traditional antibiotics are still working for most of us. One class of antibiotics called floroquinolones (say that three times fast!) may be accompanied by a weird potential side effect: torn ligaments and tendons. It’s a bit of a mystery to the experts as to why this happens, but it would be wise to take it easy for a bit if you are on Levaquin or another floroquinolone.
