The western world is awash in drugs, and not just the illegal ones. If you don’t know anyone who is taking prescription medication on a regular basis, you are in the minority, and a very tiny minority at that! A few decades back it was nearly unheard of to put children on medication for conditions like ADHD, and somehow many of us got through our school years just fine, even if we were a little too active and prone to daydreaming in class. These days it seems like the medical establishment wants everyone taking some kind of medication – from the six-year-old with ADHD to the ninety-six-year-old with high blood pressure. Unfortunately, most drugs don’t simply treat the conditions that they are designed to treat and leave the rest of our bodily functions alone. Some researchers also believe more serious side effects could emerge, such as blindness due to loss of blood flow to the optic nerve. We have a feeling we know where that missing blood would be hanging out if it’s not making it to the optic nerve!
