The Ghost That Led to a Murder: The Strange Hammersmith Ghost Trial of 1804
— July 13, 2026Few criminal cases in British history are as bizarre as the Hammersmith Ghost Murder….
It seemed fitting to complete the list by including the serial killer with the most confirmed victims known. Colombia endured at least 138 killings at the hands of Luis Alfredo Garavito Cubillos who preyed upon poor children and street children. Although he admitted to the murders of 147 young boys, a total of 138 of them were confirmed. There is some evidence to suggest that he may have claimed more than 300 victims. After cooperating with police, he was rewarded with a sentence of 22 years in prison, which is eight years less than Colombia’s maximum possible sentence of 30 years (WTF!?). Since his capture in 1999, many Colombians have become convinced that his sentence was too lenient and felt that a sentence of life in prison or death would be more appropriate. Although Colombian law does not allow either, there is the possibility that he will face additional prison time for crimes he has not confessed to, which could be treated as separate offenses.
Few criminal cases in British history are as bizarre as the Hammersmith Ghost Murder….
Few American ghost stories are as unusual or as well documented as the legend…
Among the world’s greatest unsolved crimes, few are as chilling as the Hinterkaifeck murders….
