Perhaps it was someone who watches too much Star Trek that came up with the theory that the aircraft used some new “cloaking” technology to become nearly invisible to both radar and the naked eye. It doesn’t help matters much that there are actual scientists who are working on this kind of thing today and have had some success with it. Perhaps the idea of the technology is not so crazy, but it seems doubtful that it came into play to make a civilian airliner full of people disappear.
