This island nation that is located about 1,200 miles from the southeast coast of Africa, certainly qualifies as an exotic location, but there are some things about Mauritius that may be familiar to U.K. honeymooners. The government is based on the Westminster parliamentary system, most of its citizens speak English, and they are known for a political climate that favors democracy. What’s odd: Mauritius differs from many countries where it is considered polite to receive a gift with both hands, since it is customary to receive gifts with only the right hand here.
