9. Frilled Lizard

One look at this critter in a full-blown state of freaking out is enough to give almost anyone nightmares, whether they are normally afraid of lizards or not! The large flap of skin around their necks can be fanned out to use during mating rituals and as a defense mechanism. At times they even use it as a makeshift sail which can catch enough air to lift them front legs off the ground and allow them to run along on their back legs alone!
