9. Fake Relatives

The elderly are the primary targets of this scam as they are for so many others. The scammer will call their victim on the phone and claim that they are one of their grandchildren or other relatives. They will then claim that they have been involved in an accident, that their car has broken down or that they are in some other situation where they need money desperately. They will often attempt to get the victim’s credit card information so they can use it for their own personal gain.
