In one of the most spectacular assassination fails in history, a man named Oktay Enimehmedov rushed the stage at a 2013 party congress gathering in Bulgaria and pointed a pistol at the head of Ahmed Demir Dogan who was speaking from the podium at the time. Enimehmedov’s pistol failed to fire and he was immediately set upon and apprehended by security personnel. Enimehmedov was reportedly using a gas pistol loaded with blank cartridges, which may not have caused serious injury even if it had fired, but it surely made for riveting drama at the political gathering.
