If the threat of a black hole hanging around out in space waiting to suck us all in is not bad enough, how about creating our very own mini black hole right here on earth? It’s well know that scientists love to play around with extremely dangerous things like nuclear bombs, even when they are not sure what might result from their experiments. One of their latest unpredictable toys is called a particle accelerator. It’s a massive structure that’s kind of like an underground tunnel that’s built in the shape of a racetrack. Researchers are able to accelerate tiny particles of matter to incredible speeds and then smash them together just to see what happens. Some experts fear that it could result in the creation of a mini black hole, but we’ll probably never know how real the risk is unless it happens.
