4. B-47 Lost over Mediterranean

In 1956, nuclear war was something that always lingered in the background as a threat to the survival of the human race. The cold war was a daily reality as the United States and the Soviet Union stared each other down, each with one finger on the launch button. Moving nuclear weapons around was part of the game at the time and for one crew of a U.S. B-47 bomber, the game took a very unexpected turn. The aircraft disappeared without a trace somewhere over the Mediterranean Sea while it was carrying two nuclear warhead cores. What happened to them remains unknown to this day.
