This is the kind of thing that can be a real shocker for people who come from countries where the animals we consider pets are sometimes on the menu at a restaurant. Yes, some Americans go a bit overboard when it comes to how they treat their pets. Having them sleep in their beds with them, dressing them up in human-style clothing and giving them a place at the dinner table are things that a surprising number of pet owners do in this country. Many of those things are unheard of in other countries.
