In Russia, some inmates sport tattoos of the infamous Communist dictator Vladimir Lenin somewhere on their body. Some prisoners may simply be showing devotion to a long-lost leader, while others consider tattoos of Lenin a form of protection. This is because it is believed that prison guards were once afraid to shoot at anything bearing the image of their leader. Perhaps today’s inmates sporting Lenin’s visage hope that any guard drawing a bead on them will be an old school Communist sympathizer and won’t pull the trigger.
