10. Fidel Castro

Cuba’s former dictator Fidel Castro may be the most frequent target of bizarre assassination plots of anyone in human history. A thorn in the side of the United States for decades, the Communist leader found himself in the crosshairs of the CIA on a number of occasions. Among the plots and attempts devised to eliminate Castro were plans to provide him with a poisoned wet sit (he liked to scuba dive), planting explosive mollusk shells in an area where he regularly went diving, providing him with poisoned cigars, biological agents for poisoning his coffee or tea and the hiring of a former lover to shoot him. Castro remains alive to this day, which doesn’t say a whole lot about the CIA’s competence when it comes to rubbing someone out.
