Here’s another low-tech approach that crooks use to collect ATM PIN codes. They will simply stand behind someone who is using an ATM machine and either memorize the victim’s PIN number as they punch it in on the keypad or use a video camera or cell phone to film the victim as they use the ATM. The next challenge for the crook is to get his hands on the card so he can use it, but you can bet they have some good tricks up their sleeves to accomplish this if they are putting so much effort into collecting PIN numbers. These methods can also be used by criminals in public spaces like coffee shops where people use their laptop computers to access online banking or investment accounts.
