Yes, as cars become more “wired,” they naturally become a more inviting target for hackers. The Tesla car is on the cutting-edge of electric-powered automobile technology. Perhaps it’s a bit too cutting edge, as a simple hack recently revealed. Since the car can be unlocked (among other things) by a wireless signal, all that was needed for hackers was to figure out a 6-digit password before they were able to locate the car and then unlock it. The methods the hackers used to discover the 6-digit password were old school, tried-and-true techniques that have been used for years to discover passwords – most likely a technique known as “brute force.” Just another reason to choose passwords that would be impossible for someone to guess and very time-consuming to discover by brute force.
