10. Nuclear War

Even though we worried more about this possibility back in the 1950s and 1960s than we do today, nuclear weapons are still with us, and are more accurate and powerful than ever. At least nine countries are now armed with nuclear weapons, and as we can see from watching the news, there’s plenty of tension between various countries in the world that have the ability to start a nuclear war. A sufficient number of nuclear explosions on earth could cause a “nuclear winter” that blocks sunlight from reaching us for years, resulting in a massive reduction in the population or the extinction of the human race.
