6. How Special are the Specials?

Items on the menu that are highlighted as the “special of the day” may simply be food that is nearing its expiration date and will soon have to be discarded. This, of course, does not mean that you will receive sub-standard fare when you order the special, but it’s good to be aware that specials may be the way some restaurants unload food that may not be as fresh as some of their other offerings.
