Songbirds are favorite targets among some Italian hunters who have hunted some species to the point of becoming endangered. Here in the U.S. we think of songbirds as pleasant little creatures that serenade us with an impressive variety of sounds, and not as a food source, but at the same time it’s important to recognize that other cultures have different values and when someone is raised with those values and traditions. Things that may be distasteful in one culture are considered perfectly normal to someone else. It would be advisable, however, for hunters to take preservation into consideration for the sake of the species as well as for their own desire to have them continue to exist.
