8. Sesquipedalophobia

This one is probably more common in school children since it indicates a fear of long words. Some of us probably have memories of being called upon in class to spell a word that we were not prepared to spell out in front of the whole class and worried a fair amount when those kinds of lessons came along. What we really want to know is who the smart aleck was who decided to use a long word like sesquipedalophobia to describe a fear of long words. Someone, it seems has a twisted sense of humor.
