This disorder is characterized by an appetite that is virtually insatiable. It is caused by a chromosomal defect that can affect anyone without regard to gender or race. Left untreated, this disorder can lead some people to eat themselves to death in a very real sense. Treatment usually involves adherence to a very strict low-calorie diet, and also may include the use of growth hormones.
