7. Lunar Landing Research Vehicle

This odd-looking contraption was a flying machine that definitely had a “higher purpose.” It was used as a research vehicle for the design of the lunar landing module used during the Apollo missions to the moon. With no visible aerodynamic properties, this is one aircraft that flew by virtue of the raw power that its single turbofan engine provided.
