5. Birds and Fish, Chile

During two months in 2009, millions of dead sardines washed up on beaches in Chile. Although one might suspect that the deaths of flamingos, pelicans and penguins was somehow related, experts determined that there was no link. No cause was not determined, but some speculated that it might have been related to the especially hot summer Chile endured that year.
