Bugs. It may be hard to believe, but without them life would not be possible. We know that there are around 7 billion people on earth, but the number of insects that inhabit our planet make our population look like a Friday night poker game in comparison. It would be impossible to know just how many bugs there are on earth at any given time, but estimates put it at around 10 quintillion. If you want to see what that number looks like, feast your eyes on this: 10,000,000,000,000,000,000. And those are just the ones that happen to be alive and kicking at any given moment! Good thing they don’t seem to have anything against us, despite how many of us seem to hate them. In an all-out war, the bugs would probably win! Although insects may be a rather unpleasant subject for some people, there’s no doubt that they are responsible for a lot of important jobs that need to be done. If you happen to be an entomologist you probably won’t learn anything new here. On the other hand, the rest of you may find the following insect facts interesting.

It still doesn’t sound like the best way to while away a summer afternoon, however.
