It’s not uncommon in the western world to hear the phrase, “It’s raining cats and dogs.” Although there are no reports of that actually occurring that we are aware of, there have been times when other species of animals have fallen from the sky. Much like the case of the colored rain in India, it is believed that powerful storm systems can spawn waterspouts that actually cross land and pick animals up along the way. Sucked high into the clouds, the critters may be deposited hundreds of miles away. Sometimes animals come down out of the blue and seem no worse for wear and at other times they are not so lucky and can be killed by extremely cold temperatures aloft or simply die as a result of the fall.
