Springtime is often a particularly bad time of year for tornadoes in the American Midwest and south, but it’s pretty rare for twisters to visit places like Ontario, Canada. It’s also rare, thankfully, for 148 tornadoes to break out over the course of 16 hours. This devastating 1974 event occurred on April 3rd and 4th and was considered a “Super Outbreak.” Twisters broke out in 16 U.S. States and up into Canada, resulting in extensive damage to 900 square miles and the deaths of more than 300 people.
