For reasons that may be hard for normal human beings to comprehend a 66-year-old woman named Maryanne O’Neill decided she didn’t want to pay her bill after she had a sandwich and cup of coffee at Waffle House in Fort Peirce, Florida. Despite the efforts of the restaurant staff to convince her to pay her bill, O’Neill steadfastly refused and the police were called. She was hauled off to the local jail and charged with “obtaining food or lodging with intent to defraud” which is a second-degree misdemeanor in Florida, and could land her in jail for 60 days or force her to pay a $500 fine. All of that because of a $7.46 restaurant bill.
