4. Tongue Splitting

Of all body modifications on this list, this is probably one of the most extreme, and one of the most shocking if you happen to unexpectedly encounter someone sporting this modification. The tongue is quite literally split, giving the appearance of a “fork tongue.” This is usually accomplished with the help of a qualified surgeon, but some people actually use specially-designed bindings which are inserted into a hole from a previous piercing and gradually tightened a little at a time until the split is complete. Ouch!
