Yes, this is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. A very hot object is placed against the body with the intent of burning some type of symbol or message onto the skin which will be visible permanently in the form of a scar. We’re not sure why these people don’t just opt for a tattoo, since it is probably less painful and most likely looks a lot better. Old school branding isn’t even used in the livestock industry any longer, and has been replaced with other forms of identification such as ear tags.
