His wife Mary Todd Lincoln was known as a woman who seemed to struggle a bit with mental health issues. She was reportedly obsessed with clothing and it was rumored that she once purchased 300 pairs of gloves in a four-month period. No shrinking violet by all accounts, Mrs. Lincoln allegedly had a short fuse and sometimes took it out on the president. In addition to throwing firewood at him, she also reportedly chased him from their home in Springfield, Illinois with a butcher knife!
