It’s apparent that a simple oaken bucket must have been a very valuable item to the people of the Italian city of Modena in the 14th century. Some of the citizens of Modena travelled to Bologna to steal such a bucket. Their mission was a success, but not without heavy casualties suffered by the people of Bologna. Bologna declared war and the two city-states battled for some 12 years. Bologna was never able to reclaim their bucket which still sits in the bell tower of a Modena cathedral.
