When the men and women who are charged with enforcing the law and protecting the public cross over to the dark side it almost never fails to make the news. The case of a Washington, D.C. officer is no exception to this rule, and is charged with a particularly offensive crime. As a former “Detective of The Year” award recipient, this dedicated gumshoe seems to have been as interested in investigating his stepdaughter’s anatomy as he was of investigating a bank robbery. The detective undoubtedly made use of his investigative skills to install spy cameras strategically in areas of his home that were likely to capture images of his stepdaughter in various states of undress. One camera was discovered in a bathroom and was positioned to observe the shower area. The detective agreed to a plea deal that resulted in 5-year suspended sentence and 5 years of probation. Although the law requires it, the prosecutor did not request that the detective be required to register as a sex offender because he did not have a criminal record. I wonder if the rest of us without criminal records would have caught that break.
