Almost everyone on planet Earth has heard of Coca Cola at one time or another, so hearing about a recall for such a widely-distributed product is probably not very unusual. What is a bit strange is the recall that resulted from what a Canadian woman discovered when she cracked a bottle of vitamin water produced by Coca Cola. Under the cap were the words, “You Retard.” With a sister who had developmental disabilities, the woman was particularly outraged by the words, and her father soon penned a letter to the company. After explaining that the words were printed as part of a promotion that involved both English and French, the company explained that “retard” simply translates to “late” in French. Coca Cola promised that all the offending bottles would be recalled or destroyed.
