9. Boeing 727 N844AA

Stealing a 727 jetliner is not something that’s included in just any ordinary criminal’s repertoire, but it appears at least one appeared during May of 2003 when Ben Charles Padilla, an aircraft mechanic, flight engineer, and pilot took to the air in a 727 that had previously belonged to American Airlines which bared the registration number N844AA. The company had sold the aircraft and it was ultimately leased by another company to TAAG Angola Airlines. After being grounded, it sat on the ground at Quatro de Fevereiro Airport, Luanda, Angola for 14 months before it was stolen. Both the FBI and CIA were involved in the search for the missing jet but the aircraft was never located. It is still unclear whether Padilla was the only person on board when the plane was stolen or if there were others accompanying him.
