3. Swedish Vallhund

Looking somewhat like a cross between a German Shepherd and a Dachshund, the Swedish Vallhund is another small breed whose size is not necessarily an indication of its ferocity. Reportedly dating back to the days of the Vikings, these dogs was bred to herd cattle and were known as “the little cattle dogs of the Vikings.” They were also very adept at catching rats and serving as guard dogs for the home.
