3. Oldest Living Tree

Occasionally we hear those news stories about the passing of a person that has lived to 110 or perhaps 115 years. That’s pretty impressive by human standards but those people are mere babes when measured against a Norway spruce that was discovered in Sweden during 2004. Although the part of the tree that is visible isn’t what you’d call ancient, its root system is said to be approximately 9,550 years old. The amazing ability of the tree’s roots to clone themselves when the stem dies off and a new one is generated from the same root is the key to its longevity.
