Perhaps they should have named this species “diver ants” due to the way they kill their victims. As one would expect, running away from these slow, blind ants is an easy way to escape them, but being unable to move has caused some unlucky victims to meet a very unpleasant end. They have been known to take livestock that had been tied up, and even human infants who lack the ability to escape. If their stinging and biting were not bad enough, their attack also involves attempting to crawl into any open orifice they can find. Some have died from suffocation due to having their lungs invaded by these insects! Driver ants, or siafu ants as they are also known, are native to Africa.
