it should be noted that smuggling works both ways. In other words, border agents are charged with the task of watching for contraband leaving the country in addition to what’s coming in. Usually, it’s money and weapons that are flowing out of the U.S. back to the cartels in Mexico and elsewhere. One cash smuggler probably thought the plan to bake his illegal stash of green into loaves of bread would get him across the border without as much as a second sniff from border agents stationed at Otay Mesa port of entry in California. The resourceful baker managed to bake a little over $5,000 into a loaf of bread, and was also found to have over $80,000 in cash hidden in a backpack and a stuffed animal toy.
