9. Creepy Clowns

This story managed to pull the wool over the eyes of some actual newspaper editors, as well as countless bloggers, who spread the word that scary-looking clowns were making random appearances around Staten Island, New York and that there was something sinister about it. We’re not sure what’s so disturbing about clowns who were said to be simply showing up and standing around, but it caused quite a buzz in that area. The culprits turned out to be a bunch of friends who all worked for a company that makes horror movies.
