9. Steve Irwin

The enthusiastic naturalist was known throughout the world for his often daring encounters with dangerous animals. He was especially well-known for his close encounters with crocodiles. Irwin was killed on September 4, 2006 when he got too close to a stingray which resulted in the creature’s barb piercing his chest. Ironically, he was filming a new documentary called Ocean’s Deadliest at the time.
