When a place is referred to as a “real hole,” I think we all get the idea, but if you’re talking about this unusual attraction in the city of lights, it can be taken quite literally! This museum, as strange as it may sound, is exactly what it claims to be. Visitors can descend to the sewer tunnels beneath the streets of Paris and enjoy, or well, maybe simply observe, the toilet tech that has been keeping Paris sanitary for hundreds of years. Drainage systems that were constructed in the 13th century can be explored as well as the first closed sewer systems that were excavated during Napoleon’s time. If you’re really lucky, you might get to witness a live “outflow” from homes that are connected to the active portion of the system, which are nicely marked by house number and street. Just think of how many interesting things visitors can share with friends after their visit. Holy crap Francois, that was one impressive torpedo you launched into the sewer system Friday night!
