This incident stretches the definition of weird to new lengths. During a 2006 traffic stop, Gibson launched into a rant that included references to how “the Jews were responsible for all the wars in the world.” Gibson was arrested for driving under the influence and subsequently apologized for the outburst which he later attributed to “a moment of insanity” during a televised interview. Gibson was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to attend self-help meetings five times a week for four months and three times a week for the rest of his first year on probation. In addition, he was ordered to attend a first offenders program, had his driver’s license restricted for 90 days and was fined $1,300.
