Due to an alleged computer error (that’s what they always say!), a German Shepherd dog named “IV” was summoned by Cumberland County, New Jersey court officials for jury duty. In their defense, court officials said that their computer likely assumed that the “I” in the dog’s name was the first name of a person and then generated the summons for the dog. The dog’s owner, Barrett Griner IV, decided to use the roman numerals “IV” for his dog’s name. What we’re wondering is why a dog’s name would ever even be referenced by a computer program that was generating jury duty notifications.
