This is a subject we could probably milk enough content out of to write a book. Several books, in fact! Perhaps an entire library, but you get the point. Governments the world over seem to have no shame whatsoever when it comes to reckless spending of public funds. It’s doubtful that any country in the world is immune to political corruption which gives politicians incentives to waste money on things that would be laughable if it weren’t such a serious problem. Feast your eyes on these examples of insane government waste at its worst.
In the U.S. state of Alaska, the Interior Department spent $98,670 to have a single outhouse built on an Alaskan trial. Alaska, known for its vast tracks of untamed wilderness and sparse population probably isn’t a place where any sensible hiker would expect to find an outhouse in the middle of nowhere. After all, anyone seeking a wilderness experience in that region is probably prepared to find themselves a much more natural “setting” while answering nature’s call.
