10. Scrabble

Who could ban a harmless and educational game like Scrabble? Former Romanian President Nicolae Ceausescu, that’s who! The obviously loony Ceausescu described the game as “overly intellectual” and a “subversive evil.” Some will remember that Ceausescu was the brutal dictator that was overthrown and executed along with his wife in 1989 after being quickly tried and convicted by the new provisional government. One would think that would make “Ceausescu” one of the most-coveted words among die-hard Scrabble players the world over. We realize it’s only good for 13 points, but as a bonus,  it’s probably a great one to rile up your fellow players who won’t actually believe it’s a real word.
