Like so many other urban legends, this was spread to millions of people through e-mail, websites and social media. The claim was that deranged attackers were using syringes containing AIDS-infected blood to stick random people. In some cases it was reported that victims would later find a note attached to their clothing that read “Welcome to the world of AIDS.” Although syringes have been used in attacks, the number of attacks that involved syringes with AIDS-infected blood number in the single digits and was never a widespread problem.
