9. Black Holes

Speaking of space and things of that nature, another potential danger lurks out beyond out celestial neighborhood that could bring us all to an end – or perhaps to something else. The understanding with regard to black holes is limited. They are created when a dying star collapses in on itself, resulting in an enormous compression of the material that the star was made of. The intense gravitational pull exerted by these strange object is powerful enough to prevent even light from escaping their grip. Although black holes were once believed to be stationary, scientists have seen some evidence of “wandering” black holes that travel about sucking up everything in their vicinity. That’s a visitor we definitely would not want to have a close encounter with. Famed physicist Stephen Hawking recently threw the scientific community into a bit of a tizzy when he announced that he believed that black holes do not actually exist. Not all the experts are buying that and the debate will likely continue for years to come.
