7. MS13

As one of the most prominent gangs in the western hemisphere, MS-13 or “Mara Salvatrucha,” accounts for a very significant percentage of gang-affiliated prison inmates. Started in the Los Angeles by members of Hispanic origin, MS-13 has spread out across the United States, Canada and down into Mexico and Central America. The MS-13 tattoo can be as simple as the letters and numbers “MS13” or as the words “Mara Salvatrucha,” and are often displayed on the back, chest and stomach areas.
