This one is a true head scratcher. In Canada, the sale of breakfast cereals are exempt from taxes if a free toy in included. However, this exemption only applies if the free toy is not “beer, liquor, or wine.” We feel for the cereal retailers of Canada since it’s obvious that a free nip of Seagram’s 7 included with kids’ cereal would be a big hit with both kids and parents alike. This restriction has no doubt cost them millions in revenue from parents whose only hope for their children is that they grow up to become alcoholics living in refrigerator boxes underneath a highway overpass.
